Miles Per Hour

If you have already seen this, keep reading. This clip is from You Tube,  the girl who can't figure out how long it would take to go 80 miles if you were traveling 80 MPH?

So this really happened today at work in the pool...

My coworker was near some equipment I wanted to use. He tossed two hand-held noodles to me and I caught both at the same time. He said it was because of his throwing skills. I said it was a team effort. He said- 70-20? Yes, Jacob...er, um, I mean coworker,
70% +20%=100% Ha, he realized he could not do the math. It reminded him of a funny story. He asked my patient, his patient,  and I if we had seen the You Tube clip of the girl who can't figure out  how long it would take to go 80 miles if you were traveling 80 MPH...a.k.a. miles per hour. He described the video, telling us about the girl calculating how fast she run when she is in shape versus not in shape to help her come to the conclusion. We were all laughing at this description. Then, his patient said to him...

"So how long would it take? Like a little over an hour right?"

She was totally serious. We were laughing so hard!

Great way to end the week!

Aline Vaile Kelm

My paternal grandmother is having a birthday! Monday, March 26, 2012 will be her 78th birthday. She is one great woman and has been very influential in my life. My inheritance will be her closet full of ancestry work...priceless! She remembers dates like nobody I've ever met. She loves British comedies and dramas. She loves to read mysteries. She loves to travel and garden. She loves flowers. She is a wonderful barbie cake decorator and her homemade salsa is fabulous!

Happy Happy Birthday Grandma dear!

Love you tons!

Take Action Revisited

There are themes in life that repeat...

Take Action is one of them.
You can see it's beginnings here... Take Action.
And you can see a co-founder of Take Action's recent
experience with Take Action here.

Taking Action means exercising faith in Jesus Christ.

Taking Action means having a tough conversation, even if it makes your heart ache, even if as you have it you shake so bad
you can barely hold the phone...
because peace and anger cannot coexist in one heart.

Taking Action means making a new strawberry lemonade cakeball recipe NOW instead of wondering if it would taste good.

(and it sure did taste yummy!)

Take Action means sharing your talents and breaking out the craftiness inside of you so you can create something beautiful for your
"niece" and "nephew".

Taking Action means going ahead and being multi-cultural even if it scares old ladies in the pool at work into thinking you got a real tattoo.

(Henna tattoo by the talented Natasha)

Taking Action means starting fresh, just like spring,
not staying stagnant or dormant.

My Serrano Pepper plant has sprung to life!

...and the jalapenos are getting ripe!

Taking Action means enjoying the sweetness of the moment.

Taking Action means being brave and courageous!

Never Suppress a Generous Thought

A former patient of mine still comes to use the pool independently. It has been well over a year since I treated her. We say hello each week and she always asks for updates on my life. She is older than my mother, but I consider her a friend. A few weeks ago she saw I was looking not quite myself in the pool and knew I was having a rough day. Nobody else had noticed all day. I heard her mention just before spring arrived that she liked bluebonnets. I decided this weekend to paint her a present.
I painted this...

So here is the cool part. I wrapped it up all cute today and gave it to her. She told me she has had a lot of company in the house and it exhausted from feeding several grandsons, a visiting brother-in-law, and her husband and was dreading going home. She said the painting made her day and she knew exactly where it was going to go. I didn't know the timing would be perfect...but God did.

As Sister Camilla Kimball said- "Never suppress a generous thought!"

A Hard Thing

"Charity is having patience with someone who has let you down. It is resisting the impulse to become offended easily.

It is accepting weaknesses and shortcomings..."
President Thomas S. Monson.

Funny how this quote pops up on days like today,
when I really need the reminder.
This is so hard...but I'm working on it this week...
working on it for myself- my OWN weaknesses and shortcomings;
for another-hurt my feelings and let me down without even knowing it...

Charity Never Faileth...that has got to be the answer!

Texas Independence Day Y'all!

Hello friends who once lived in Texas, love Texas, or are native
Texans never wanting to leave...

Did you know today is Texas Independence Day? 176 Years of
Independence from Mexico!

I looked up some cool facts.

http://www.celebratetexas.org - here you can see another version of
the flag, it is a flag of the revolution.

To celebrate I'm going to eat some brisket today and run a 5K tomorrow
down Congress. There is a parade on congress after the 5K.

I also looked up some quotes by David Crockett. Here is his personal
motto 1.) "Be always sure you're right-then go a-head!"

2.) "...you may all go to hell and I will go to Texas." Did you know
this was in Tennessee in reference to loosing a congressional election
to a "peg-legged lawyer" and then he decided to leave the state?

Then once he got to Texas he said this...

3.) "I must say as to what I have seen of Texas it is the garden spot
of the world. The best land and the best prospects for health I ever
saw, and I do believe it is a fortune to any man to come here. "

Happy Texas Independence Day Y'all !!!!
