Heart Divided

As you can see I was a BYU fan at a very early age.
(And apparently Devin loved the Dodgers, who knew.)

There is a great home video of me standing on my dad's back doing a very good cheerleading imitation and shouting
 "B-Y-U-Cougars!",
then jumping off. I am also told I taught my new friends in California the BYU fight song,
claiming it to be the national anthem.

I went off to college and attended every home game I could for four years. I mean, look how official I am, blue cougar paw and blue "Y" on my face. Hannah probably knew more about what was actually going on, and Lisa was probably just as happy to look at cute football players as I was. We cheered loud and proud!

I remember being so excited my freshman year when I attended my very first football game. My grandparents, uncles, and several cousins went. Grandma made "football chicken" that we ate before the game. I had seats by the tunnel the players came out of. Singing "Rise and Shout the Cougars Are Out" as they came out of the tunnel gave me chills of excitement.

For Christmas my sophomore year my grandpa got me a jersey. Kevin Feterik. He wasn't a particularly good quarterback, but I sure thought he was cute.
Later my grandpa even got the jersey signed for me.

Ra-Ra Ra-Ra-Ra Gooooooooo Cougars!

However, 9 years prior, and too many years to count since  graduating from BYU, I have lived in TEXAS,
home of the longhorns.

Move over Kevin Feterik, hello Colt!

I've enjoyed many a game at the 100,000 seat stadium, singing "The Eyes of Texas", watching the jumbo screen of the longhorns entering the stadium. Click here and jump to minute 1:27.   I know the meaning of "Get your horns up", and that "What happens here changes the world".

I (not so secretly) love this twist on a Mormonad

My heart this weekend is torn. Much as it was two football seasons ago when BYU came to Austin to play the Longhorns. Turns out that your two favorite teams playing together sucks. It sucks big-time. Last time they played I learned that I bleed a little more orange then I do blue. I just couldn't cheer against TEXAS. I think I'll be cheering for TEXAS tonight.

But my heart is divided....
