Run, Run, Run

I love my brothers a lot. (I love my sister in law too, but this is about the boys tonight.)

I love this one because there is always a melody playing in his head and he often let's the world know what he is hearing by singing us a tune.

I also love him because he is going to make an aunt out of me come May!

But this one is the reason for this blog entry tonight...

Back in December he was averaging 2 miles of running on the treadmill each time he worked out. Then we came up with a challenge. I said something like,

"Hey Devin, let's both pick an amount of miles we each want to run in January."

I ran 27 the month of December and I decided to shoot for 45 miles. Devin responded by saying something like,

"I'll do 100 miles."

I admit, I was thought, yeah right. Sure you will, you don't know how hard that will be. Well guess what folks, a week early, he reached his goal. The first day he ran in January  he did 6 miles.  Last night I was talking to him on the phone. I told him I had done 38 miles and had 7 miles to go and 2 days to do it in. He said,

"Run it all at once."

The most I've ran in January at one time was 5. I said,

"No way, I can't do that."

Today I went to the gym after work. I decided I would do 4-5 miles. At 5 miles I slowed down to cool off...but then I heard Devin in my head-

do all 7 at once!

So, I did!  I was completely inspired by him taking the challenge head on and rocking it!  Thanks Devin!

February Goal:

flatten my abs- meaning, see if I can loose 2 inches in my waist to be back where I was 6 months ago.

Game on!

A Night in Paris, First Dance 2013

The Austin Texas Stake had an adult semi-formal dance this weekend. The theme was "A Night in Paris".  The gym was decorated just fabulously. And the attendees looked sharp!

Me and my cute momma!

The best part of the night? 3rd place would be doing the "Cupid Shuffle" in line with mom and dad. 2nd place would be dancing to "Single Ladies" and "I think we're alone now" with my dad.

But 1st place...Watching my parents dance...

And dance......

and dance some more...

I hope one day I can be so lucky!

First Month of the Year

First Sunrise of the Year from Mt. Bonnell.  Don't see it?  Neither did I, it was too cloudy and all you noticed was that it got brighter outside.

But the view was nice and I got to try my first panoramic picture on my phone.

First breakfast of the year- a cinnamon pumpkin pancake from Kerby Lane Cafe.

First painting of the year- a painting for my coworker Karen O. She loves owls and has a one-year old son. I made it for his room. It was a late Christmas present.

First new skill of the year- shadowboxing. This is my Grandma Hutchison's pep squad shirt. I looked up a video on line on how to frame a jersey so I could also frame a soccer jersey for my brother Michael. Mom and I found cheap shadowbox frames and finished both this shirt and the jersey in one afternoon.

Another panoramic picture of the room where the shirt is proudly displayed!

First Theme of the Year. It comes from the talk "An High Priest of Good Things to Come" (click on the title for a link to it) by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, October 1999. My favorite quote is this-

“Don’t give up, boy. Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead—a lot of it—... You keep your chin up. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come.”

You can also see a Mormon Message video featuring the talk. https://www.lds.org/pages/mormon-messages?lang=eng#good-things-to-come

I ended 2012 with witness after witness of how wonderful and full my life is.
I want to carry that with me this year.

So my theme is "Happy and Hopeful, 2013!"

Next blog...first dance of the year!
